I've added a new dimension to the plans.  All of these designs are based upon 8' 2x4 blocks.  I eagerly await comments, thoughts, or potential problems.  Next I'll probably combine the three different bed sizes in one design... The old: and the New…

Buying another farm is the easy way to go. You can use it to inoculate a bunch of other colonies. The next step up from there seems to be much more complicated but if you're interested I recommend Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms by Paul Sta…

Check out Field and Forest they are the most local mushroom spawn supplier I know of, and nice folks to boot. I did some experiments with oyster mushrooms in coffee grounds, with only partial success. I'd like to give it another try sometime...

Colin Beavan decides to completely eliminate his personal impact on the environment for the next year. It means eating vegetarian, buying only local food, and turning off the refrigerator. It also means no elevators, no television, no cars, busses,…

This looks terrific! Questions.... 1. What size are these plots (I'm guessing 5 ' 10)? 2. What is the separation between beds? 3. Are these bordered with timbers? 4. Are any of these dedicated to the general public? Would be good to put these deta…

The design subcommittee met at Katie's house to see if we could increase the number of plots in our design.  We fit in 68 - comments?

I consider Jensen very, very smart. His close read of Dawkins and the author of "Mother Nature is Not Our Friend" was priceless. But I consistently think his emphasis is in the wrong place. You will never get people to organize themselves around the…

This is great, thanks :) He describes that dismal feeling that living in Western culture is a) contributing to the death of the planet and b) denying yourself the resonance, health and harmony of Everything. I never thought I could have peace of m…

C. Milton Dixon added a discussion to the group The Stories We Tell Ourselves
Check out this interview with Derrick Jensen.  There's one part in a long section where I loose him but otherwise I think Derrick is spot on with most of the things he says.

Yep....That's what I was hoping to see. Could we: 1. add one more bed to the south easternmost row; and 2. Move the circle farther south and make it twice the size? Hoping to make this a community "circle". Looks like we've got sun to take advant…

This group is a place where we can question the stories that underpin our failing civilisation, examine the stories of other traditions, and perhaps craft new ones that will serve us better as we transition into the future.

Yes - #3. Your latest. Yes. Wouldn't want wood/plastic blends either. I'm wondering who would know this. Christine might be able to ask Jane Shank of the Chicago Park District. Off and running, Pam

Welcome, welcome, WELCOME!

So glad, Milton, you've decided to join us - and hope to see you at some of our gatherings! Our small garden workshop was mighty in its scope and relationship building - so good, in fact, we hope to host it again in the next three weeks. And remember . . . Lan and I expect to have chickens by mid-April if you and Rebecca are interested in stopping by (or, as Rebecca said, "helping out".
Looking forward to connecting,

Pam

Transition Rogers Park is a grassroots, from the ground up, community organization. No one is going to tell you what to do and how to do it.

If you have a thought or idea that could move the community forward toward resiliency and self-reliance, put it out there....and then begin it!
