There's much more involved in the transition than changing light bulbs. We need a whole realignment of thinking. We need to ask the questions of how we got here in the first place and how do we meet our hungers without so much consumption?

Anything that can help us salvage our high rises is something we need to study. Most of our good older housing stock badly needs retrofitting with insulation and more efficient mechanical systems. If a 102-story bldg can benefit from "low tech" impr…

Great ideas! I'm glad I'm not the only one who saves her candlewax tailings to make new candles. Re-use your plastic dry cleaning bags for the trash-just tie the "shoulder" end into a big, tight knot. It's as strong or stronger than most trash bags…

Profile Information

Where do you live?

Why are you choosing to join Transition Rogers Park?
I believe that grassroots movements that begin with individuals exercising initiative to change the way they live and to change their communities from the ground up, at the lowest cost possible, trump costly, bureaucratic top-down government programs. The Transition Town concept permits for voluntary individual actions and contributions at all levels, individual solutions, making use of what you have, and flexibility in the implementation.
What background or talents do you have that you can contribute to Transition Rogers Park?
I was impressed, during the 70s, by the Club of Rome's "Limits of Growth" and have been struck, ever since, by how accurate were the predictions of resource depletion and population overshoot. Since then, I've desired to find more ways to live a better life with vastly reduced resource imputs, and am most of all interested in saving our cities and urban life in the face of severe contraction of available resources.
