Profile Information

Why are you choosing to join Transition Rogers Park?
I am hoping to contribute to the creation of a community where all people have equal voice; resources are equitably shared; and people find ways to meet their daily needs through local agriculture; business; health care; etc.
What background or talents do you have that you can contribute to Transition Rogers Park?
Until recently, I was a land use planner and vice-president for a land use and environmental planning firm in Wheaton, IL. My husband and I sold the firm to form Eco-Justice Collaborative, an organization designed to raise awareness of the impacts of U.S. lifestyles on our planet and all people, and move people to work for change at the personal, community and national levels. Climate change, peak oil and calling out solutions that ensure all people have what they need have been at the forefront of our work.

Join me at Eco-Justice Collaborative!

Neighborhood Orchards . . . Why NOT Rogers Park, Too?

Last week we gathered at the home of Barbara and Joe Moore to explore planting urban orchards in Rogers Park. MANY ideas were brought to the table . . . . and those attending agreed to reconvene at Loyola University on November 11, 6:30 PM to talk more specifically about locations (e.g., park district property, school property, church property, etc.). But here's another idea of what an orchard in our neighborhood might look like, from Nance Klehm,… Continue

Climate Change: Four Degrees of Devastation / Migrating Climate

What can we do? We can gear up to locally respond to this challenge! This means weaning ourselves off of coal and oil, in particular. These fuels are primary causes of climate change when burned. How? We need to organize around conservation, efficiency and renewable energy (in that order) and begin to implement these practices / tactics in our own community.

But we also need to think about adaptation, because the climate is, indeed changing. This is the time and the place for transition initiat… Continue

The Era of Xtreme Energy: Life After the Age of Oil

"So let's be blunt: we are not (yet) entering the much-heralded Age of Renewables. That bright day will undoubtedly arrive eventually, but not until we have moved much closer to the middle of this century and potentially staggering amounts of damage has been done to this planet in a fevered search for older forms of energy."

A "must read" to understand our country's energy future.

Hi Pam,
Will this group include both East and West Rogers Park?
Also since I'm not a resident of Rogers Park I'm not sure if it makes sense for me to come to this or else perhaps just meet with you separately to discuss if it turns out we end up doing our work in West Rogers Park. What do you think? I'm thinking a meeting might be best?
Best, Jenny
